Beyond the shiny veneer of Dolly Parton-themed Netflix specials and drunk bachelorettes, the real idea of country is really just an amalgamation of aesthetics, taken from mythologized histories, meant to define what it means to be American. This zine came about when a set of 1992 Country Classics trading cards fell into my eBay cart, and I followed suit. The cards are matched with out-of-context pieces of old country music magazines, forming a new answer to the question, what is “country”?
